Russian Blue Kitten FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
How can I be sure your kittens are purebred Russian Blues?
All cats in our breeding program are registered with TICA and have documented pedigrees. Our litters are also registered with TICA, allowing their ancestry and bloodlines to be officially documented.
What documents will I receive with my kitten?
Your kitten goes home with TICA registration, veterinary records and microchip information.
At what age can Russian Blue kittens go to their new homes?
Our kittens normally go home at approximately 12 weeks. This allows time for natural weaning, independence, spay or neuter surgery, recovery, and preparation for the transition to their new family.
Are your kittens spayed or neutered before going home?
Yes. Pet kittens are spayed or neutered before leaving our cattery and remain with us during their initial recovery.
Are UbetCat kittens microchipped?
Yes. Our kittens are microchipped before going to their new homes, and you receive the microchip information with your kitten.
What vaccinations will my kitten receive?
Our kittens receive the Nobivac® Feline 1-HCP vaccine, which helps protect against feline herpesvirus-1, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. Vaccination dates are included in your kitten’s veterinary records.
Will my kitten already be litter-box trained?
Yes. Our kittens are confidently using the litter box before going home. We recommend initially using the same type of litter your kitten already knows.
How do you socialize your kittens?
Socialization is part of everyday life at UbetCat. Our kittens are gently handled, cuddled, played with, and gradually introduced to normal household sounds and family life.
Are Russian Blue cats intelligent?
Yes. Russian Blues are highly intelligent, observant cats that quickly learn household routines and become remarkably aware of their people’s habits, voices, and moods.
Are Russian Blues suitable for families with children, dogs, or other cats?
Yes, many are. Russian Blues can live happily with children, cats, and cat-friendly dogs, but introductions to other animals should always be gradual and never rushed.
How do you help me choose a kitten that fits my family and lifestyle?
Tell us about your family, children, other pets, lifestyle, and the personality you are looking for. Because we know our kittens individually, we can help you choose one whose temperament may be a good match for your home.
Do Russian Blue cats shed a lot?
Usually very little. Russian Blues have a short, dense double coat, and in our experience shedding around the home is generally minimal.
Do Russian Blue cats need regular grooming?
No. Their short coat is very low-maintenance. Occasional gentle brushing is usually sufficient, and routine bathing is unnecessary.
Is my kitten accustomed to nail trimming?
Yes. Our kittens are introduced to nail trimming from an early age. Nails can generally be checked and trimmed approximately every 2–4 weeks as needed.
Should I routinely clean my kitten's ears?
Usually not. Healthy, clean ears generally do not require routine cleaning. If you notice discharge, redness, odor, scratching, or frequent head shaking, consult your veterinarian.
Should I routinely brush my kitten's teeth?
We do not recommend routine tooth brushing unless there is a specific dental need. If dental concerns develop, we recommend discussing appropriate care with your veterinarian.
What type of scratching post should I buy?
Choose a stable scratching post that will not wobble or tip over. For a young kitten, we prefer a low, lightweight, fabric-covered post with a wide base or a scratching post securely incorporated into a stable cat tree.
What toys should I avoid for my kitten?
Avoid toys with small detachable pieces, loose strings, rubber bands, thin ribbons, easily detached feathers, sharp edges, or exposed metal. Wand and string toys should be used only under supervision.
Are Russian Blue cats hypoallergenic?
No cat is completely hypoallergenic. We do not market Russian Blues as suitable for people with significant cat allergies.
Why don't you allow unrestricted visits to your cattery?
UbetCat is a closed, home-based cattery. Limiting unnecessary visitors helps reduce infectious-disease exposure and stress for our kittens, pregnant mothers, and adult cats.
What happens after I reserve my kitten? Will I receive photos and videos?
Yes. We provide dedicated photo and video updates at approximately 7 and 9 weeks and may share additional special moments as your kitten grows.
Do you deliver Russian Blue kittens to other states?
Yes. UbetCat offers several transportation options for families outside South Carolina, including personal pickup, door-to-door delivery in selected East Coast states, and flight nanny service within the contiguous United States. We can also arrange to meet families in the Charlotte, North Carolina, or Columbia, South Carolina areas.
Can I pick up my kitten personally?
Yes. Personal pickup can be arranged, and we will coordinate the details with you before your kitten’s go-home date.
What should I expect when my kitten first arrives home?
Some kittens explore immediately, while others need several days to feel comfortable. Begin with a quiet, secure area and allow your kitten to explore and approach you at its own pace.
Will UbetCat help me after my kitten comes home?
Yes. Our relationship does not end when your kitten leaves our home. If you have questions during the adjustment period or later, you are always welcome to contact us.
